Shell Lubricants: increasing productivity and profitability in the agricultural sector

E-mail Print PDF
Exciting news for South Africa’s agricultural sector is that Shell Lubricants has restructured its product distribution model and launched a campaign to assist the farming industry to become more productive, profitable and sustainable. Os du Randt, the legendary Springbok rugby player, has been appointed the face of the countrywide Shell Lubricants Agricultural Co-ops campaign and will soon be seen in various point-of-sale material including posters and counter mats.

According to Linda Mayekiso, Shell Lubricants marketing implementer, several farmers across the country have recently entered into co-operative agreements with the company. This will allow them to buy Shell lubricants in bulk, significantly reducing cost of buying products individually. Shell Lubricants has also allocated a dedicated distributor to every co-operative to allow continuous access to its products. “The farming sector plays a critical role in greater society and in the economy,” says Mayekiso. “It is therefore important that all machinery used for farming purposes operates cost-effectively and efficiently at all times ensuring productivity and, ultimately, profitability. This campaign will provide farmers with full access to Shell Lubricants’ Rimula range which has been developed to prolong the lives of tractors, trucks, bakkies and other farming machinery that requires lubrication.”

Farmers who are members of the co-operatives will have unlimited access to Shell Lubricants’ comprehensive product portfolio and technical services. Because the distributors will have direct contact with the co-operatives they will be able to partner with farmers and implement marketing growth programmes in line with the campaign. The Shell LubeCoach for example, will train farmers on the correct use of the Rimula range in the different applications. It will also educate them as to how various lubricants operate thereby prolonging the lives of their engines and keeping them clean on the inside.

"The Shell Rimula range is proven to produce low emissions and save fuel through low-viscosity formulations. It is also much is easier to use,” says Mayekiso. “By partnering with Shell Lubricants through our co-operative agreement, the farming industry will soon enjoy the benefits of improved productivity thanks to the efficient operation of its machinery at low cost and through having direct access to the technical expertise of our distributors,” he concludes.
